Nestling in the Firth of Clyde, the Isle of Arran could have been tailor made as a sea kayak circumnavigation destination. The island provides relatively sheltered conditions (though the south coast is exposed to the Irish Sea in the prevailing south westerlies) along with spectacular scenery for the adventurous sea paddler. This one has to join the Isle of Anglesey, Isle of Man and Isle of Wight on the list of any self-respecting sea kayak circumnavigator looking for a challenge.

Brian Turnbull (28-Sep-13)
From Brian: "The weather looked favourable and in fact early in the day I could not have wished for better with virtually no wind to speak of and some sunshine to lift the spirits. The afternoon, however, proved to be a bit of a slog with a very irksome headwind for the last third of the journey, the task was duly completed and although my average was pegged back from what I had hoped for I was still pleased to get the job done in a reasonable time. What a beautiful place to paddle; I was privileged to start off with a gorgeous sunrise quickly followed by Otter and Basking Shark sightings and numerous birds to distract me from the task in hand....the scenery was just stunning with lots of shoreline features and of course the mountains as a backdrop, with Goatfell standing proud."
