Arnside – The Bottom-Dragging Bore
The tidal bore at Arnside is a feature that draws a crowd, who come to witness the sands become submerged in a silty instant. The bore runs into the River Kent in Morecambe Bay, UK.
It isn’t the biggest of waves, in fact it is not a big wave at all. However the factor here that challenges a long-run, is not hydraulic power but almost the opposite, the water here is only inches deep for much of the run.
At Arnside the rudder blade leaves a gouge in the sand, and paddle strokes become more relevant to building sand-castles than to boat handling.
The Arnside Bore – it’s small, fun and sort of cute really. A great way to polish your bottom.
